Title: OHM You Need is Love
Medium: Mixed media on board, plexiglass, with LED lights, patterned wallpaper, string, epoxy, and mounting brackets
Description:
OHM You Need is Love is a bold, dimensional artwork that merges neuroscience iconography, pop culture reference, and poetic introspection. At its center is a large, stylized human brain rendered in black linework over translucent plexiglass, lit from behind with glowing LED hues of electric blue and warm pink. The brain pulses with psychedelic energy, creating a surreal focal point of thought, emotion, and circuitry.
Emerging from the brain’s outline are layered silhouettes: on the left, a figure gestures with a pointed finger—perhaps accusing, commanding, or confronting. On the right, another figure, seemingly wearing headphones, appears contemplative or detached, forming a tension between noise and introspection.
Over the top of the piece is a comic-style burst bearing the word “silence,” a directive that both clashes with and tempers the visual noise of the scene. Below the brain, thick red and pink epoxy drips mimic viscera or melted plastic, adding visceral weight and movement to the piece. Suspended from the base are strings ending in audio jacks, alluding to connection, disconnection, or the desire to plug in and tune out.
The composition is affixed to a dark wall with patterned wallpaper partially visible beneath the brain, further blurring the lines between interior (mind) and exterior (environment). Mounting brackets enhance its three-dimensionality, casting subtle shadows and anchoring the brain as a tangible object, not just a symbol.
OHM You Need is Love plays on the homophonic relationship between “ohm” (a unit of electrical resistance and a meditative sound) and “all,” suggesting a fusion of science, spirituality, and the universal longing for love and peace in the midst of chaos and static.
